  4. My most played albums of the moment are the latest Pulp and the latest Foxwarren, extremely digging these two. But I was just listening to some good ol’ Nick Drake (no album, but the rarities-compilation Made To Love Magic).

the last (non-rh) album i listened to was grace by jeff buckley.. i feel like there's usually some overlap with radiohead fans and jeff buckley fans
  10. Last one was actually OK Computer earlier today, but given this is an "other" music section... Yesterday went back to The Evens's eponymous debut from 2005. Lovely for a pleasant winter's day at home (winter where I am in Australia is generally nicer than summer). A man on baritone guitar, a woman on drums, both taking turns singing separately and together, nothing else needed.

It's 2025, who the hell cares about what Pitchfork thinks?!

I'll start: Morphine - The Night (2000)The last album Morphine put out, released a year after Mark Sandman's passing. It features slightly more instrumentation apart from their usual trio of drums, bass and saxophone, while not straying too far from the formula that makes their discography so great. It's not as good as their magnum opus Cure for Pain, but it's a close second. Great record for long summer nights!

Love them. So thrilled they are doing some shows in October/November for the first times in more years than I can count.

Pitchfork gonna do them dirty with an 8.2 and no BNM.

i'mma go with 'no' i personally doubt if it'll be as good as adrianne's last solo album interested to see if there's a bit of a critical backlash against the band

I've been getting into Swans lately and I like it a lot! I think I'm opposite to previous reply, I didn't tap into early stuff compared to recent. Birthing is really good album, a solid continuation of The Beggar ideas. any recs what I should go with in pre-1997 albums?

Share a song you love by a band or artist that most people probably haven't heard of! I'll go first. Bye Bye Land by Hooded Fang

you know, i'd say blue screen life is my favorite out of the pinback bunch. the first three albums are where its at for me
  41. scatterbrain posted a post in a topic in music
I have Blue Screen Life but haven’t explored much more. What next?
  42. thefourthcolour posted a post in a topic in music
You’re right about relevance - I mean, Letting You could have been written today. And the YZ concept gets realer and scarier every minute, digging deep into the ARG/websites is a real experience. The Slip is great, and underappreciated as a cohesive record IMO. Is your username a combination of Echoplex and Corona Radiata? I like it.
  43. thefourthcolour posted a post in a topic in music
Yup, I’m in that overlap. Glad to see this thread. Love Swans, honestly haven’t dug into the post-2010 the way I have with the pre-1997ish, but I have listened to almost everything from that time - just not over and over like, say, Soundtracks, or Public Castration. Incredible band, of course.

When I think of dedication to artwork and not letting execs or critics influence their body of work, one of the best bands that comes to mind besides Radiohead are SWANS. Theres probably an overlap between the two fan bases right?
  47. echoradiata posted a post in a topic in music
I'd say The Slip and Year Zero are their best Renaissance pieces, extremely relevant to this day and while not as incredible and reward as The Fragile, they certainly aren't as demanding, because as you said, its exhausting.

I'm very excited for the new tour, ill be following them across the entire North American leg, starting in Oakland and ending in LA. I'm borrowing the ninlive rig to record about half of the shows, the other half ill be in the pit for. I have an incredibly exhaustive collection of theirs, I think 300+ items total.

Great. Definitely recommend immersing into the lyrics and art if you can, it helps get the message across. See if you can find the Digital Poster out there, google search should do it - really cool expanded presentation of the lyrics/credits in lieu of liner notes.

Thanks! I'll start with With Teeth!
  51. tetheredspirit posted a post in a topic in music
I agree with thefourthcolour. The Fragile is brilliant album, but it's draining due to length. but worth it really! I'd start with With Teeth and maybe The Slip? honestly, second album depends on what you like more, "synth and other bleeps"-centered or guitar-focused songs. if the former, then Year Zero is a really nice way to understand Nine Inch Nails electronic side

i have loved gorillaz since i was 6 and the first three albums are super formative to me, gorillaz were my favourite band of all time until i discovered radiohead when i was 17 but thom yorke, damon albarn and bjork are my holy trinity anyways so it isnt too bad haha. post hiatus gorillaz just doesnt hit the same as a project now, especially with the non musical side of things but i did recently wonder what it would be like if thom and stanley did gorillaz instead of damon and jamie hehe, i think it would be a lot more surreal and creepier hahaha.

The Fragile is held in high regard - and I tend to consider it my favorite - but listen at your own risk, it is very long. Lots of similarities to Spiral, but a lot more instrumental “filler” tracks and a wider range of emotion. Total 10/10 for me, but takes a lot to get into. For modern NIN but an easier undertaking, I highly recommend With Teeth and Hesitation Marks.
