I've been getting into Swans lately and I like it a lot! I think I'm opposite to previous reply, I didn't tap into early stuff compared to recent. Birthing is really good album, a solid continuation of The Beggar ideas. any recs what I should go with in pre-1997 albums?

I agree with thefourthcolour. The Fragile is brilliant album, but it's draining due to length. but worth it really! I'd start with With Teeth and maybe The Slip? honestly, second album depends on what you like more, "synth and other bleeps"-centered or guitar-focused songs. if the former, then Year Zero is a really nice way to understand Nine Inch Nails electronic side
