Okay, I'm making a deliberate effort to seek out music from new bands established in, say, the last 5-10 years.

Squid has been a great discovery recently - I loved Cowards. What else did I miss while I was under my COVID rock?

I feel like if you enjoyed Squid, maybe other Windmill scene bands will be great too? black midi (disbanded, but had a solid run), Black Country, New Road (be vary of sound change on latest album, but enjoyable nonetheless) are my fav discoveries this year :)

other acts worthy of a mention: Model/Actriz, YHWH Nailgun and Geese (check also this band's frontman solo album, extremely good!)

Feeling reassured as these are on my radar - Model/Actriz really working for me in particular (wouldn't mind knowing a bit of background, where did it come from). YHWH Nailgun is new to me - on first listen to this EP, wild drumming! Makes me wanna sample it.

I don't know much about Model/Actriz tbf, quick research says the band hails from Boston (currenly residing in NYC) and has consistently received praise from various publications, the momentum is slow but that's fine. it has a small following, mostly consists of music nerds and ppl tapped into Boston/NYC music scene from my observations

Another vote for Geese…saw them open for King Gizzard (twice) recently, they were great!

Maruja and Ugly are easily two of my favourite recently emerging bands. Maruja have only released a few EPs at this point but their debut album is set to drop in September. Ugly released their (fairly short, 36 minute) first proper album last year and I’ve been finding myself returning to it frequently since then.
